The Council of Religions of Mauritius was established in 2001, following an appeal by the United Nations, with the mission of promoting peace, social cohesion, and interfaith dialogue in Mauritius.
Bringing together respected leaders from different religious communities, the Council serves as a trusted advisory body that works to prevent and ease social and community tensions through dialogue, mediation, and ethical guidance. Its strength lies in the objectivity, integrity, and moral authority of its members, who act in the interest of harmony and mutual respect.
Over the years, the Government of Mauritius has repeatedly sought the Council’s guidance to help defuse sensitive situations and potential conflicts, recognising its important role in safeguarding social stability and national unity.
Council of Religions works across education, development, and dialogue to promote peace, understanding, and social cohesion.
